Charlie Stenholm is a graduate of Stamford High School, John Tarleton Agricultural College, and Texas Tech University. Charlie was elected Representative of 17th District of Texas in 1979 and served on the House Agriculture Committee for 26 years, the last 8 as ranking member. His career spanned 5 Presidents, 8 Secretaries of Agriculture, 4 Speakers of the House and 8 Chairmen of the House Agriculture Committee. Known for his leadership of the Bluedog Democrat Coalition, where he worked in bi-partisan coalitions on welfare reform, social security reform, budget reform, energy policy and agriculture policy.
Charlie Stenholm's honors include American Farmer Degree from the FFA, Heritage Hall of Honor State Fair of Texas, Cooperative Hall of Fame and Tarleton State University Distinguished Alumni.
Charlie and his wife of 56 years, Cindy, have 3 children, Chris, Cary, and Courtney Ann, son-in-law Daniel, and 4 grandchildren, Col, Chase, Cameron, and Chandler.
